Caroline Cottage, Mousehole, Cornwall
General Information

Caroline Cottage is a combination of traditional and new. Whilst the front is an old double-fronted granite cottage, the back was rebuilt in the 1970's' allowing for roomy hallways (plenty of room for muddy boots and beach shoes!). As is common in Mousehole, the 3 bedrooms and bathroom are on the ground floor. A pine staircase leads up to the light living room with its wonderful views and French windows to the balcony. The adjoining kitchen/dining room has an exposed granite wall, an old Cornish range, plenty of room for eating and relaxing (and watching the little street and restaurant opposite), and a kitchen area which makes cooking a positive delight. The external stairs at the back of the cottage lead down into Keigwin Square, one of the few parts of the village to survive a Spanish attack in the 16th century.

Mousehole is a joy to explore - tiny paths, hidden clusters of cottages, constantly changing views. Keigwin Square has a plaque to Dolly Pentreath, the last Cornish-speaker. A mile east along the coast, the former Penlee lifeboat station is now a memorial garden to the crew of the Solomon Brown lifeboat - all of the 8 crew were Mousehole men who lost their lives in a heroic rescue attempt in 1981.

Our booking information includes more useful information on the cottage and village. Currently we are offering some flexibility e.g. for short or off-peak stays. For most of us holidays are a well-earned break, so we have been keen to make the cottage attractive and comfortable for maximum enjoyment.
